Mark Twain (1835–1910) was an American writer, journalist, and publisher. Among his most famous novels are “The Adven-tures of Tom Sawyer” and its sequel, “The Adventures of Huckle-berry Finn.” Most of his ? nest work includes many genres such as humor, satire, and philosophical ?ction. “Roughing It” is a semiautobiographical work that describes the travels of young Mark Twain through the Wild West during 1861–1867 along with his brother Orion Clemens. The book contains many adventures, including a visit to Salt Lake City, a journey to the Kingdom of Hawaii, and his beginnings as a writer. All with Twain’s excellent sense of humor, which later would become one of the key features of his writing.
